History of the Comic and Games Cafe
History
Alpha Omega Comics was established in May 2000 when with help from my Mum I purchased what was then known as Alternate Worlds Albury. The Alternate Worlds shop that was to become Alpha Omega Comics was located on Swift street shop No.#1a/451 right next door to Tucker on Swift.
In the year 2000 John Guthrie who had been the Manager of Alternate Worlds in Albury for 7 years decided to sell his business I Christopher Andrew Luke (or C.A. Luke as I am known on-line), a young aspiring comic book artist/writer of 23 from Broken Hill, who has for many years been trying to break into the comic book industry. I had heard from a friend that it was up for sale I decided if I can't break in to the writing and penciling side of the industry that I would have a go at selling them instead. Next I convinced my mum to help me get a business loan, so on the 22nd of May 2000 Alternate Worlds in Albury became Alpha Omega Comics.
I knew that since Alternate Worlds also sold games related products mainly role-playing and card games, I would need help from my long time friend Robert Miller who was into the gaming side of things.
Alpha Omega Comics soon got its first major break in August 2001 partially due to starting to stock Games Workshop's war gaming product (Warhammer Fantasy battle & Warhammer 40,000) these lines continue to be one of Alpha Omega's best performing stock sections.
The business has grow much when we started catering to this section of the Albury-Wodonga gaming community.
The next major break for the shop was in September 2002 when we moved location from Swift Street to at 2/518 Macaulay Street , where since our new Games Manager, Andrew Walker started up games nights.
However in 2005 due to a Price War over Games Workshop I was forced to sell the games side of Alpha Omega Comics and set up base at home as the Comic Books Cafe On-line at 442 Olive Street. And on-line at: http://www.comicbookscafe.com.au
Just over One Year Later we moved again to The Garage at 2/643 Edward street where we are now set up.
We are now selling games again as we have now become the Comic and Games Cafe!
As of the 24th of June 2009, we have moved to 8/586 Dean Street in the heart of Albury where we have set up our shop so you can now buy from us on-line and off-line.
And as of the 22nd of May 2010, we will have been selling Comics in Albury for 10 years in one from or another and counting, so why don't you come on down get a cup of tea or coffee and join up at the Cafe today and buy some comics, books, DVDs or Games?
